Neuro Linguistic Programming

NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programing, in simple terms, is how we use the basic language of our mind to consistently achieve the results we want in life.

Neuro: Our nervous system, or our mind, which we use to experience the world through our senses

  • Visual

  • Auditory

  • Kinesthetic

  • Olfactory

  • Gustatory

Linguistic: The language and other communication that we use to store experience and give it meaning in our mind:

  • Pictures

  • Sounds

  • Feelings

  • Smells

  • Tastes

  • Internal Dialog (self-talk)

Programming: Discovering and using the programs, patterns, and strategies that we run in our minds to achieve our goals.

It operates through the conscious use of language to bring about changes in someone’s thoughts and behaviors.

It is not hypnotherapy, it is a process that achieves changes by engaging both the conscious and the unconscious mind.

It works by helping understand the language that we communicate with to understand how we all organize information presented to us to form our own unique representations of the world.

Once we have a clear picture and understanding of the language that your mind thinks and communicates in, we use processes and techniques to align a person’s beliefs with their goals to help them overcome and achieve solid success in all areas of their life.

Through understanding of the language of the conscious mind, we can help clients release limiting factors and achieve outcomes with techniques such as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Swish patterns, Anchoring, and TIME™ techniques. This allows them to have a clearer picture of how to move forward with obtaining their outcomes.

All this in a language that taps into and easily communicates both with the conscious and subconscious mind that will easily motivate you to become more efficient and focused on the achievement of their desired result.

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are very powerful tools that can treat a vast array of issues and conditions.

Hypnotherapy is a natural and organic process of tapping into the power of your own mind to achieve your self-improvement goals.  Many people think of hypnotherapy only for use with habits such as stop smoking or losing weight.  While it certainly is good for those, the power of the mind has no limits for personal application.

As a Hypnotherapist, I work with an almost endless array of personal achievement goals.  In some cases a medical referral may be required for issues of pain management and other medical related issues.  If you are working with another counseling professional already or have goals beyond personal self-improvement  then I may ask for a referral from the appropriate psychology professional.


There are two key concepts for understanding why hypnosis is such an important tool for creating life changes.

Homeostasis: Homeostasis is our innate unconscious drive to “stay the same”, that is to say resist all changes at a subconscious level.  While we may desire a change in our feelings, reactions or habits, at a deeper level our subconscious defense mechanisms seek to preserve the status quo, ie… resist all efforts to change.  So while talking, planning, discussion and rational understanding of behavior are all important concepts, they do not address our subconscious need to sabotage our success and/or efforts to change.

Neuroplasticity:  On a personal, spiritual and behavioral level, neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain to change throughout an individual’s life. Our ability to changes beliefs, emotional responses and behavioral habits is dependent on the flexibility of our mind.  Hypnosis, Therapeutic Imagery, NLP, mindfulness and more are the tools used in hypnotherapy to facilitate the internal, emotional, behavioral flexibility need to overcome homeostasis and release our subconscious needs to sabotage our success or resist our desires for change.
